Tortilla Soup
I usually never make soup. Why, mainly because Shawn doesn't believe its a meal and since he's the one that eats the most at our house I try and make things he'll eat so our food doesn't go bad. Well yesterday I tried making tortilla soup. I've been wanting to try a particular recipe for a while and since Shawn was working that night I thought hey why not, that and it looked way easy. Turns out it is very easy to make however I have never cooked with jalapenos before and didn't really know how to handle them. I thought hey I'll just wash my hands after I cut them up and I'll be fine. I have never been so wrong in my entire life! I cut them up washed my hands thinking I was in the clear and then put my hands on my face. About 2 minutes later it felt like the flesh was melting off my face. Seriously I thought my face was on FIRE! I asked (yelled) up to Shawn to look up how to neutralize the burning on my face and he came up with several solutions, non of which really worked. I kid you not people I rubbed ice cream, and corn syrup on my face I was so desperate. It was quite a sight. So I then called the only person I knew for a fact had cooked frequently with those nasty little peppers, Shady. Thankfully she told me to try making a baking soda paste and putting that on, so I did and walked around my house with paste on my face for a while. Now I don't know if it was that or all the other things I had tried combined but it finally felt like my face wasn't burning off anymore. Thank you Shady, and now I know never to chop jalapenos without gloves. Oh and the soup turned out good but so spicy the kids will only eat it with about a pound of cheese and chips on it and Shawn hasn't even tried it. Its really too spicy for my liking but I don't want to waste all that food. Stupid soup I'm never making it again!

You'll have to give me the recipe; I love tortilla soup and we like spicy food. Poor Bexar, that is why I never cut jalapenos without gloves anymore. I always used to burn myself and I did it a ton last summer.
Yikes! I haven't cooked with jalapenos before, but will remember this if I ever do!
yep. Done that before after making salsa. Holy fire when I went to take my contacts out.
Sad, b/c tortilla soup rocks. I have a simple recipe that's not too hot.
