What a Day!

Lets not start with today, really the fun started last night when Caroline decided to wake me up 3 times in the middle of the night because she "thought" Devin woke her up. The morning went pretty well other than the fact I only had about 20 minutes to get ready for church, no big deal I was way too tired to care about my hair anyways. At church (which for us is 4 1/2 hrs because we go early for Shawn's meetings to save gas) Caroline was not the best. She wouldn't listen and had three time outs before sacrament meeting even started. Here's my favorite part of the day, in the middle of the first hour Caroline needs to use the potty so I take her and she completely misses the toilet and gets urine all over the seat, floor, and even my shoe! I just wanted to cry and go home but had to teach nursery so I stuck it out. Luckily our friends had an extra pair of underwear for Caroline to use. Nursery was a mad house today. Twelve kids in each side and lots of tears! I'm so glad to be home and have kids in bed! Oh and we've since turned the lock around on Caroline's door so no more night time visits. Looking back its pretty funny but wow, I'm tired.

Vacation!

This week Shawn was on a break so we decided to take full advantage and spent the week traveling around Houston. First stop the Temple. Caroline has been asking to see it for quite some time.

Here is Caroline for her photo op.

Walking around the grounds.
We also went to go see friends that had a baby, the zoo, and Ryry and Nani made my week by inviting Caroline over for a slumber party! Ryan picked her up after work on Thursday and then Friday we went to pick her up and stayed at Bethy's. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures once we got there. It was such a great week, and I'm glad we were able to have fun before Shawn is off to surgery rotation!

Boys are Gross

Today while I was getting the kids ready for bed Devin did something so nasty I thought I was going to throw up. He reached in the toilet grabbed some toilet paper that was in there and PUT IT IN HIS MOUTH! I wanted to die! I thought this was really weird but I've heard from Grandma Funk that his cousin Evan does the same thing, so I guess it runs in the family. Really I just think boys are gross.

Melt My Heart

Recently Caroline has been so cute I wonder how I ever get frustrated with her. Here are a few things that melt my heart a little.
1. Sing a mix of I Love to see the Temple and I'm a Child of God to Devin to "help" him fall asleep.
2. Takes her brush and say "I do it like Reed." and then proceeds to put 5 headbands in my hair and brush it.
3. Run up and say "I have an idea, take friend to zoo."
4. Recognize when I that when I say b-a-t-h I mean bath.
For those of you who love the crazy Caroline don't worry she's still here she filled her sink with bubbles the other day by playing with the soap for about 15 minutes.

A Good Day

Some days I feel like a slacker mommy, but today was a good day. It rained almost all afternoon and I decided to build jungle gym for Caroline and Devin. It was a hit! When I told Caroline we used to build these for her and Mabel she said "I want B come over." So this is your official invite B. Anyways they played on it for about an hour before getting distracted. Here is a picture of Caroline "exercising" on it, and Devin just being cute. Apparently her work out got her pretty riled up b/c for the next hour Caroline couldn't stop running around jumping up and down and just being plan old crazy! It was quite something. She's a nut.

Exercise Group

I finally followed through with something. I joined an exercise group! It is the most wonderful thing ever. Caroline gets to play with friends while I go work out. We go to the rec center nearby that has tons of elliptical machines and weights and a POOL! I'm so excited to go swimming, they even heat it in the winter. I just need to find my goggles. This should make it much easier to loose some more lbs, but then again I probably need to kick the chocolate too. We'll see how I do with that.

Oh how we love pudding!

Caroline has a new favorite dessert. Can you tell what it is? (other than from the title of the post) Yup pudding. We made pudding for the first time last night and she couldn't keep her fingers out of the bowl while the pudding set up. Oh and another little treat, Caroline got into my craft drawers and got paint all over the carpet in my closet. How can such a cute little girl do such naughty things? She makes me crazy some days.

How I Saved $100

Its really a funny story. Today my visiting teachers came over today and one of them invited Caroline over to play. I jumped at the chance to have only one baby for the day and Caroline was quite literally jumping up and down at the thought of playing with anyone other than me. Well about an hour later we went out to get in the car and I realized I didn't have my keys but had locked the door. I have been told several times by Shawn not to lock it from the inside but did I listen no. Anyways, so I was stuck outside in 90+ degree weather with no way to get in the car or my house. I went to the front guard and asked him if he could help but seeing as we don't keep a key with him he couldn't but was nice and let us stay in the booth that has a/c. So I called my home teacher (who's wife happens to be my visiting teacher.) I usually just call Shawn but he's on call (no I don't know how to page him and he keeps his phone off) and I knew my home teacher was at home and is always willing to help. He came over slid a card though the door a few times and was able to unlock my door. So because of my home teacher I didn't have to spend $100 to call a lock smith to let me in. Really maybe I should have tried the card thing myself or listened to my husband. So now we have an activity for the night, making cookies for my home/visiting teacher.

An Update

So here's what's been going on in the exciting lives of the Funks. I"m sure everyone will want to visit after reading this exciting entry. I've discovered that I really do enjoy sewing, at least pajama pants anyways, and can whip them out pretty quick. My next projects include a super hero cape and a tutu for Caroline. If anyone has suggestions let me know. Next up Shawn.

Poor, poor Shawn. Third year has turned out to be quite exhausting for him. Between the elders quorum, rotations, designing a website for the medical school, and spending time with us he stays pretty busy. I think his favorite relaxing activity is playing Wii with Caroline. He's also been trying to get over a cold for the past two weeks. The other week I found him like this in Devin and Caroline's room. Thanks for working so hard!

Devin, Devin, Devin. What can I say other than he's nonstop. Don't be deceived by the adorable face he's quite mischievous. He's now standing up on everything he can get his hands on, walls, people, tables, chairs etc. He loves taking baths, pulling Caroline's hair, eating soot from the fire place, pulling up loose floor boards, eating shoes and being held by mommy. What a boy! And he's really starting to look like his sister.

Sweet Caroline. Other than throwing tantrums at bedtime she's been an angel lately. Her latest thing is being clean and is constantly going upstairs to wash her hands (really she puts soap on her ands and rubs it all over her body.) She also thinks she's big enough to go potty all by herself which trust me she's not. We've had a few talks about how mommy still needs to help her just a little bit. She's been a little lonely since her precious B is gone and loves going to see her (me too) but she'll settle for having other friends come over. Oh and she loves building towers of blocks.

I know I should but I don't

I know I should feel really guilty about getting a Nintendo Wii but a little bit I don't. I know I shouldn't use it to bribe people to be my friend but I probably will. I know playing it last night shouldn't make me feel better but it did. I know I shouldn't want to make a mi for everyone that I know but I do. I know I shouldn't want to get Super Mario Cart but really I can't wait. I know the purchase was totally unnecessary but I think hey we never to ANYTHING so I figure its ok, right? And consider this an open invitation for anyone to come over and play ! (it'll help me justify the purchase.)

Sick, sick, sick

So I'm really glad Shawn is enjoying his third year getting to play doctor and everything but it definitely has its downsides. Really the part I can't stand is getting sick from all the germs he brings home, namely a cold and pink eye. As a kid getting sick was so fun but now I can't really say to Caroline, "ok I"m sick so if you could just take care of yourself that'd be great!" So if anyone would like to tell me how to not get sick that'd be great!

Gee Whiz

Yesterday I got something in the mail that frightened me. A big packet of papers from a law firm. For a second I thought holy crap who is suing us, and why would you want to we don't have anything. Unless you count medical school debt and by all means take that away. So I opened the package prepared for the worst. Upon opening the package I was very pleased to see that it was a patent application for Shawn. All I could think was gee whiz, Shawn is nuts!
