Cast Buddies

We made it!  Devin now has a cast on and I can relax now, a little at least.  It was a very quick visit, in and out in an hour (being the first patient after lunch is awesome) and he was even told he was the best patient of the day.  They also took more X-rays and he looks good so we'll be back in three weeks to get the cast off and the pins out.  Can I tell you how jealous I am that there is a possibility he may get his cast off before me?  Not fair, at all.  Oh to be young and heal quickly. I'll take being old(er), healing slower, and getting to eat cake for dinner whenever I want to though.

My cast looks pretty sad and wimpy compared to Devin's.  Let's hope this is the last time anyone will have a cast on in our family.  I won't hold my breathe though, we're quite clumsy around here.

Bright Spots

I'm tired.  Devin is doing everything in his power to freak me out and make me think he's going to hurt himself every moment of everyday.  He thinks he can do all the fun things he used to do, like hanging off couch upside down, sitting on the kitchen stool, and bouncing around on the hoppy ball.  The poor boy is quickly learning that he can't do much of anything mainly because I'm terrified of him getting even more pins in his arm.  Its been pretty boring around here because of it.  Lots of playing inside and watching movies and doing every puzzle we own several times a day.  Not too exciting but I'm finding things to keep me happy about life, like $1 pineapples (crazy I know naturally I bought 5), making a list of all the desserts I want to make when I get my cast off, and most recently: the new Hunger Games movie trailer!!! I'm so excited mainly because it comes out November 22 which is perfect because that just means I'll get to see it the right way with my sisters over Thanksgiving break.  I didn't think I could've been more excited for Thanksgiving but my expectations pretty much skyrocketed when I saw the release date.  Thanksgiving 2013 is going to be the best ever, right Poodle and Bethy?

I really wish I was kidding but I'm not

I'm not sure how to start this post other than to just say it.  Devin had surgery today after breaking his elbow when he fell off the top of our neighbors playground.  He climbed to the top of the swing set after I had told him not to and fell off.  I didn't see it happen but he came over to me crying so I just walked him down the street to Shawn and he looked at him and decided he needed some x-rays.  Shawn was so calm about it I really didn't think much of it, and then he called me a while later and said, "He's fine, just needs surgery."  And my response was, "He's fine or he needs surgery."  Both didn't seem to go together in my head.  Shawn took care of everything and Devin had pins put into his elbow this morning and is fine now.  I guess our family feels the need to single handedly supply the ortho department with work.  Here are a few cute pictures of how the morning went.

Here he is waking up from surgery.  And buddy got to go with him just like when he had his eye surgery.

He's a little more awake in this picture in all his post op glory.  His broken arm is the one laying down all wrapped up.  The other thing is to keep his IV in.

Caroline and Graham had a blast watching movies eating lots of bacon and egg sandwiches and slurpees.  Caroline said it was the best day ever.
I was amazed at how fast they were he went in for surgery at 8:30 and we went home at 10:30.  I love Shawn's job right now.  Devin will get a cast on Friday so we'll be quite the pair with our casts.  I'll make sure to take a picture of it.  Wish us luck that we don't break anything else this week.

Homesick remedy

I've been more than a little homesick for Texas lately.  The last few weeks its rained, and rained and rained, and been above 50 degrees a total of 2 days.  The weather in addition to seeing my sister post about how beautiful it is in Texas and the fact we haven't been back there in a year has taken its toll on me.  Then yesterday I discovered something that made Texas feel much closer.  We were eating the samples at Costco and we tried some beef sausage that was incredible.  And it sounds dumb but I actually told the sample lady how much it reminded me of Texas bbq.  So much I almost bought some, which I NEVER do, I just eat the free samples.  Anyways when I found it and looked at the package I found that sure enough it was made in San Antonio.  So the next time I'm missing Texas spring, or good bbq, or my parents, or siblings I'm just going to head to Costco and eat my sorrows away with sausage.  Not a bad plan if you ask me.

Spring Break

I'm sure everyone is sick of my saying how awful the weather has been here, even I am, so I'm going to shut up and show some pictures of all the fun stuff we did over spring break.  I really love having two weeks off, every school should do it!
Caroline finally mastered the spinning monkey bars.  This is now her favorite park.

I just thought she looked pretty cool here.

This is a terrible picture but proof.we went to the adventure science center.

Made a practice birthday cake.  I'm just glad I finished it before I went biking that day!

Went "hiking" with friends.  The path was paved most of the way so I wouldn't say it was real hiking but fun nonetheless.

Here's the waterfall we walked to.  Not the most impressive waterfall but hey it was something fun to do.  We also made one last trip to the zoo before our membership expired, slept in everyday, had some cooking lessons with Caroline and had lots of playdates.  It was awesome.

Easter

Despite how cranky and angry at the world I've been lately we managed to have a great Easter.  It rained most of the weekend but we still managed to enjoy ourselves.  I had completely forgotten about an Easter egg hunt we were invited to the week before but we were lucky and were invited to another one this past Saturday.  The kids had fun playing with friends and I enjoyed some adult conversation.  Later in the day we dyed eggs.  For some reason I thought it would take a while but much to my surprise it took about 5 minutes.  I remember it taking much longer growing up but everything seems to take forever when you're a kid.  Sunday we enjoyed church and I was pleasantly surprised that Shawn was able to come even though he was on back up call.  After searching for Easter baskets (which I finally broke down and bought decent ones this year) and eating dinner we were ready for bed.  So here are pictures because I'm sick typing with this stupid cast.

Can you guess which eggs belong to which kid?

I have no idea why she keeps making this weird face but it'll be fun when she's embarrassed by it when she's older.

My boys really need their hair cut.  I think they're still pretty handsome.

He's crazy.
