Devin's busy week

Devin had a lot going on last week.  On Wednesday he "graduated" from preschool.  We had a nice low key party at our friends park to celebrate and play with his classmates.  Even though this group was the biggest I've taught they were by far my favorite to teach.  They got along so well and followed directions really well too.  We had a great time and I was able to finally use my incredibly useful cupcake carrier I got for Christmas (I was so excited to finally use it, yes I'm lame).

Here he is in his cute little hat.

And getting his "diploma".

And the whole class and then some extra siblings thrown in too.

The boys could have played all day, but I needed to clean up the kitchen that looked liked it had thrown up cupcake batter and frosting.

Graham even got to play with a buddy.  I actually feel like Devin is ready for kindergarten.  At least academically, emotionally may be another matter but we'll see I'm sure he'll surprise me.  He's been doing a really great job on his reading lessons and its interesting to see how differently he and Caroline learn.
In other exciting news Devin also got his cast off this week!  He was so brave and didn't even want to sit by me when they took his pins out.  It made me a little sad.  He's a tough kid, he most definitely whined less about his cast than I did.  Hopefully in about a month he'll have full mobility back.  That is as long as he doesn't do other dumb things like lay with his feet straight up in the air under a trampoline while other kids are jumping on it.  Sometimes I just don't understand him.   Anyways he's a sweetie and we love him regardless of the less than intelligent things he does that get him hurt.
He is such a cute kid.

That little red dot is where his pins were.  Its healing up quite nicely.  Here's to a cast free house!

Field Day

We've had a busy week so far.  Just about everyday we had something going on with the kids.  First up was field day with Caroline.  If anyone remembers last year I was pretty disappointed in field day so I didn't expect much this year.  I was pleasantly surprised though.  I think it mostly had to do with the fact that Caroline seemed to have a lot more fun this year which is always fun to watch.

Here she is doing the limbo.  She was pretty good too.

I can't believe she's going to be a second grader next year!

This was so funny to watch.  She was really good on the scooter and most kids were pretty slow on their bellies but it turned out to be the one she was best at.  She's pretty strong from all the monkey bars she does.

So here are the kids playing Just Dance on the Wii they have at school and I kind of thought it was lame to do it but nothing is funnier than watching 30 first graders try and dance to the Despicable Me soundtrack.  I think we need to get that game for our Wii.

Here she is dancing some more.
Devin even tried bustin' a move.
The only thing that I think is really dumb about field day is the fact that they and out participant ribbons.  Really?  I really don't see the point but hey I'm not in charge.

Free!!!!!!!

I'm a little behind on posting about this but I was too busy enjoying using two hands.  I finally got my cast off on Friday!  I was extremely happy, and can I just say that if felt AMAZING to wash my stinky hand.  Seriously it was disgusting, for the last week I had it on it constantly felt damp.  Yuck.  I'm in a removable brace for the next three weeks and then I should be home free.  I'll be honest though my wrist still hurts a bit.  I can't put much pressure on the palm of my hand so volleyball is out of the question and push ups (but I never really did those anyway).  So this week I'm free to bake cupcakes for Devin's preschool graduation, wash my hair with BOTH hands, and pretty much enjoy life again.  I'm never going to take the use of my hands for granted again.  This was much more frustrating than my ankle being broken.  So my new goal for this year is to not break anything else in my body.  High ambitions I know!

Countdown

I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for a lot of things.  Friday there is a VERY slim chance that I could get my cast off at my appointment.  I'm trying to not get my hopes up too much but seeing as I've had a cast or splint on my hand for 7 FREAKING WEEKS its kind of hard not to.  l may cry tears of joy if I get it off, seriously.  And here are few more things we're counting down for.
Summer!  Only 27 more days until Caroline starts summer break, its going to be awesome.
The Funks are coming!  Only 28 days until Shawn's parents come, and they'll be here for 2 weeks!
SHAWN ONLY HAS 6 MORE OVERNIGHT CALLS FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We're pretty excited about the last one if you can't tell.  I'm still well aware he's still going to have late nights but hey its a step in the right direction.  i have a feeling May is going to be great!

Cast Buddies

We made it!  Devin now has a cast on and I can relax now, a little at least.  It was a very quick visit, in and out in an hour (being the first patient after lunch is awesome) and he was even told he was the best patient of the day.  They also took more X-rays and he looks good so we'll be back in three weeks to get the cast off and the pins out.  Can I tell you how jealous I am that there is a possibility he may get his cast off before me?  Not fair, at all.  Oh to be young and heal quickly. I'll take being old(er), healing slower, and getting to eat cake for dinner whenever I want to though.

My cast looks pretty sad and wimpy compared to Devin's.  Let's hope this is the last time anyone will have a cast on in our family.  I won't hold my breathe though, we're quite clumsy around here.

Bright Spots

I'm tired.  Devin is doing everything in his power to freak me out and make me think he's going to hurt himself every moment of everyday.  He thinks he can do all the fun things he used to do, like hanging off couch upside down, sitting on the kitchen stool, and bouncing around on the hoppy ball.  The poor boy is quickly learning that he can't do much of anything mainly because I'm terrified of him getting even more pins in his arm.  Its been pretty boring around here because of it.  Lots of playing inside and watching movies and doing every puzzle we own several times a day.  Not too exciting but I'm finding things to keep me happy about life, like $1 pineapples (crazy I know naturally I bought 5), making a list of all the desserts I want to make when I get my cast off, and most recently: the new Hunger Games movie trailer!!! I'm so excited mainly because it comes out November 22 which is perfect because that just means I'll get to see it the right way with my sisters over Thanksgiving break.  I didn't think I could've been more excited for Thanksgiving but my expectations pretty much skyrocketed when I saw the release date.  Thanksgiving 2013 is going to be the best ever, right Poodle and Bethy?
