Cake Week

I had fun this week.  About a week ago I made a cake for the service Shawn is on at the moment.  They liked it and asked me to make a strawberry cake for one of the attending's birthday this week.  I tested out a recipe and made a mini cake to practice my piping skills and tried a few different frosting recipes. Then yesterday I made a cake for my friend's baby shower.  She loves lemon so I tried a recipe for a lemon cake but I think I over mixed it because it kind of deflated after I took it out of the oven.  It was a bit more dense than I had anticipated, oops.  No one seemed to notice though so I guess it worked out.  I think I'll try a different recipe for the cake next time.  The one I used you have to whip egg whites and then fold them into the batter, not my favorite thing and it needed more lemon flavor.  Anyways it was fun to try some new recipes and practice doing different designs on the cakes.  Hopefully someday people will pay me to do this!

Here is the lemon cake.  It reminds me of a flower. I still really need to work on my piping skills.  Not bad though.  And I could really benefit from some good coloring gels.  

Here is the strawberry cake.  I like how the top turned out.  And yes I took a picture of it in my car.  I was about to take it into Shawn's clinic but hadn't taken a picture yet and I'm weird in the fact that I like taking pictures of my food.
