The Finals

Ok I admit it I'm a fair weather fan of the NBA.  I used to watch it with much more regularity but ever since marring someone who is not a fan of watching sports I can't remember the last time I watched an NBA game.  But this finals round I have really loved watching and the main reason?  The Spurs.  I really like the Spurs.  I remember when I still lived at home and Tim Duncan's contract was up and he visited a few teams that offered him lots of money but he stayed in San Antonio because he liked where he was. And I thought to myself, "I like you Tim Duncan."  So its really fun to see some of the same players I loved in high school and reminds me how much I really like San Antonio, like I would be one happy lady if we ended up there.  Now don't think anything of that statement because we really don't have a clue where we'll end up and it probably won't be there but I sure think it'd be fun.  For now I'm enjoying seeing a much older Spurs team keep up with and even beat down one of the biggest teams in the league.  Go Spurs!

Summer Fun

I made it a goal to have lots of fun this summer.  I know it doesn't sound super ambitious to "have fun" but sometimes I need a little kick in the pants to make sure I follow through with my ideas.  We're three weeks into summer and I"m pretty sure my kids are very much enjoying their summer.  The only problem is I keep forgetting to take pictures.  Oops! I did snap a few of them a while ago though so here are a few of our summer happenings.

Here we are at our friend's house a few weeks ago.  It was kind of a kick off to summer party.  With slip n slides and everything.

Here is Graham trying to figure out who to get wet next.

And Caroline trying to master the art of kneeboarding on a slip n slide.
We've also played in the creek at Edwin Warner Park, hiked around there, spent lots of fun time with the Funks, and made it to a new splash park yesterday.  We've been keeping busy but you'd never know with the lack of pictures I have!  My new summer plan is to document our fun so I can have proof when my kids are older that I used to be fun.

Father's Day

Yes I know Father's Day is next week but of course Shawn is on call and since his dad is in town this weekend we decided to celebrate today.  Like most holidays or events in this house we celebrate with food and lots of it.  So we started the day with homemade kolaches, yum!  I may need to make these more than just once a year.  Then Devin did one of the most adorable things ever and built Shawn something out of our gear toys for his present.  I love how excited he gets about building with toys.

After church we had some dinner with Shawn's parents and hung out.  And then we ate the most amazing cake ever.  I had been thinking about this cake for such a long time I was so excited with how it turned out.  I"m just realizing how sad it is that I took pictures of the cake but none of Shawn and the kids.  We had a nice relaxing day hopefully Shawn felt appreciated! We sure love him and we're so glad we got to spend the day with Steve and Sheri as well.

Peanut Butter Cup Cake.  Hello best cake EVER.

I almost didn't want to eat it because it was so pretty.  And then better sense kicked in.

I thought this stage was over

I feel like the blog has been missing something lately and today I realized what it was lacking; a good story about the kids.  Well Devin did something today that was quite blog worthy.  He choked on a penny.  Yes my 5 1/2 year old child choked on money, not my 3 year old my 5 year old.  I really thought the oral phase was over but I find myself constantly telling Devin to get stuff out of his mouth.  It's more than a little annoying.  What really concerns me about today's incident is that he was too scared to tell me what happened.  Graham ran into my room telling me that Devin had hurt himself.  So I went to check it out and sure enough Devin seemed like he was in a lot of pain.  When I asked him what happened he said, "I don't know."  After a few minutes of sobbing he calmed down and told me his story.  Here it goes.

Devin: "I was just standing by my bookcase and a penny fell into my mouth."
Me: "Did you put the penny in your mouth?"
Devin: "No it just fell in and now my throat hurts."

I was pretty sure I was missing a big part of the story.  Like the part where Devin put the penny in his mouth forgot it was there and swallowed it.  But he was quite adamant he did not put the penny in his mouth.  Yeah, I'm not buying it but he seemed pretty shaken up by it so I was nice to him.  I just kept telling him, "Well this is why we don't put things in our mouth." over and over again.  He calmed down and I told him he would just poop it out so Devin then ran to the bathroom to go poop.  He was bound and determined to get that thing out of him.  He was really sad when I told him he would have to wait a few days to get it out of him.  Hopefully all these great life lessons will stick with him before he really hurts himself, wait he already has.  I just count myself lucky he's made it this far.

Some Randomness

Not much is going on around here but I thought I'd post anyways because that's what I used to do when I got bored, I blogged and I really liked it.  So here are some random thoughts that have been wandering about in my head.

1. I love our neighbors.  More specifically I love that they will come knock at our door and ask my kids to play.  I love that we don't have to schedule people to come over to have fun, its great.

2. One of Shawn's friends from high school recently emailed me and asked what my sister's name was and if she was an OBGYN because when at her ob appointment she saw her doctor and thought me and her looked so much alike we had to be related.  It turns out my sister is her ob and I loved that she thought we look alike!  No one ever tells me that!

3. I was reading in a magazine yesterday that Marc Jacobs is about to become a billionaire and it really infuriated me.  I mean this guy designs clothes people and I can't get over the fact he makes so much money off of people's vanity.  Really he doesn't bother me I wouldn't be able to pick him out of a crowd, it makes me mad that no one seems to care that he makes that much.  I should really be mad at society for actually spending that much on clothes, but that's a whole different post all together.

4. I wish I could make a cake and/or treat everyday.  I don't really want to eat all of them just make them and then give it away and watch people eat it.  Weird I know.  Really I just love it when people like my food.

Randomness done.

School's out for summer!

I don't think we could have had a better day to start summer.  After Caroline came home we went and had lunch at our friends house, played there for a while, came home to play outside some more and, then ended the night with hotdogs and more friends.  And the weather, holy cow this is what I thought all of March was going to be like!  Low 70's and low humidity, I will gladly take more days like this thank you very much.  Too bad the real summer weather will be back in a day or two but we are going to live it up while we've got.

We may have also celebrated the last full day of school yesterday with 50 cent corn dogs at Sonic.  Combine that with 1/2 price drinks during happy hour and you get some ridiculously happy kids.  Thank you Sonic, we'll totally be going back for 1/2 price shakes this summer too.
I feel like he's about to say, "Corn dog power."  Trust me anything can be a superpower in our house.

And Caroline insanely happy to be doing something out of the ordinary.  I love that I can can fool my kids into thinking I"m the coolest mom by only spending $2.

And here's Caroline getting off the bus for the last time as a first grader!  I swear she was just starting kindergarten.  Time goes by way too fast when kids are in school.  I'm excited to slow down and relax during the summer.  It's going to be fabulous!
