The past year I have really been wanting to drive up to Kentucky and see Mammoth Caves. Its the biggest cave system in the US and I think second biggest in the world. We had grand plans to go before I had George but we never followed through. So yesterday my friend and I took our kids to go check it out. It was so fun. They are only about 90 minutes away so the drive isn't bad at all, and the kids thought it was so cool that we were going to another state. The first part of the cave tour takes you down lots of steep stairs and I was dumb and hadn't put George in his baby carrier yet so with one had I was holding onto poor George and the other I was gripping onto the railing in hopes I didn't slip and fall and have George fall too. My legs were shaking most of the way down. Once I got to a flat stopping point I strapped George to me and felt much better. After the death stairs you get into the huge caverns. They are so beautiful, and it was fun to go through and see such amazing natural scenery. I tried talking some picture with my camera but flash photography isn't allowed and I'm not very good at using it yet so most of them are really blurry. Sorry.

This is the first large open area after the stairs. The rest of the tour was a gradual up and down on smooth rock. Much better than stairs.
The lights in the pictures are from electric lights so you can see where you are going, not natural light.
I finally learned the difference between a stalactite and stalagmite. I'll probably forget in the next few day though.
It was really weird walking out of the caves, they have a revolving door that leads you out to the middle of a forest. Its hard to tell anything is even there.
All the kids with the rangers that were our guides. I'm so glad I crossed it off our Nashville bucket list!
