We Survived!

I can take a huge sigh of relief now.  Shawn's second year is finally over, and more importantly we lived to tell the tale of it.  To say the least this last year was rough so I thought I'd throw together a list of survival traits I learned this last year in case someone stumbles upon this blog and is going through the same thing.
1. Find a good place to cry.  So sad and pathetic but I cried so much the first few months of second year and looking back I don't know why I'm pretty sure I was just overwhelmed with how much my sweet hubby was gone. For me my crying place was my nice comfy bed or the couch watching Harry Potter. Don't worry though by the end of the year I was so used to Shawn being gone I noticed it much less and was a much happier person.
2. Stock up on hair dye.  Sadly this last year has caused me to gain a few WHITE hairs, not gray, WHITE.  I swear I didn't have them last year, I can only imagine what I"m going to look like by the end of residency.  Yikes!
3. Have lots of family come visit.  I had almost my entire family visit this past year and Shawn's whole family came for Christmas.  It made the year go by so much faster knowing we had so many visitors to look forward to.  Our family rocks.
4. Go above and beyond for your husband.  I can't count how many times Shawn has told me how great I am and how much he appreciates what I do when I make him food or let him sleep a little longer, its totally worth the small amount of effort and come on he works really hard.
5. Keep telling yourself next year will be better, over, and over, and over again.  Today was the first day of third year and Shawn even came to church with us, its a miracle!  I"m so happy to be on the downhill slope of things, its just going to get better from here.  We had a lot of fun this year but other than my kids getting too big, I'm not sad to see it go.  Two years down three to go!  Way to go Shawn!

You poor thing! I always complain about Lane never being around, but I'm sure Shawn has it much worse!
